COPG PROVIDES CARE AND EDUCATION FOR THE CHILD AND SUPPORT FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
Croydon Opportunity Pre-School Group is a registered charity that runs two pre-school groups in the Borough of Croydon. The groups are open to children with special needs and their brothers and sisters. Our service plays a vital role in the care of children with developmental, physical or medical special needs between 3 months and 5 years of age.

Although we receive a grant from the Croydon Local Authority, this only covers part of our running costs so a small attendance fee is charged, and we depend fully on donations and fund-raising to operate the service.

The groups provide a warm and secure environment with a high staff to child ratio. Each centre is fully integrated with children from a wide range of ages, abilities and cultural backgrounds.

We are supported by a comprehensive range of services including Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, along with other specialists, who, when appropriate, work with individual children and liase fully with staff and parents / carers.

These facilities would not be readily available to the children in mainstream playgroup / pre-school settings.

We offer a broad and balanced early years curriculum providing a range of learning opportunities for all children, whether special needs or mainstream. Through careful observation and monitoring our keyworkers can support and extend each child’s learning in an effective way.

There is a parent / carer room at each group where parents and carers can stay to have a cup of coffee and socialise with other parents if they wish to. This support is another major part of the groups, enabling sharing of mutual problems, anxieties and also practical information and advice.

Parents and carers usually stay at least for the first few sessions to ensure their child settles in happily, which they usually do!
